BURGAW, NC (WWAY) — It is safe to say that celebrating a birthday is a happy time, and for a local woman it’s a milestone birthday.
Annie Ruth Pearsal was born on February 22, 1916. That means Monday she will turn 100 years old.
She grew up in Roseboro, but has spent most of her life in Pender county.
She had many jobs throughout her life including being a florist, owning a nursing home and even driving a laundry truck, but what she remembers the most is singing in her church.
“Live for the Lord, because if you live for yourself you won’t get anywhere, you won’t get but so far,” Pearsal said.
She says her secret to living longer is her faith.
Pearsal said, “Just be yourself and be what your mother taught you, ’cause I know most mothers taught their children to be good children. I taught my children to be human to everyone, treat everybody right.”
She says her children are the only presents she wants for her special day.
“I’m proud of my children,” Pearsel said.
Annie Ruth will have a birthday party Saturday at Alley Cats Cafe in Burgaw. We wish you the happiest birthday from us at WWAY.
